The Nux thing properly got people to divide over it because he had shit that looked bad for Vshojo, which caused some to switch around because they couldn't tell which way the wind was blowing. With something like I described it'd take time and a deliberate effort to make friends who'd "support" them if they came to blows with anyone, but they could absolutely do it, plus their type tend to think of "supporting their friends" as getting vocally involved in their twitter drama, which is a pattern if you notice it with this kind of thing (excellent example being Vshojo canceling Nux then admitting later they didn't even know why they were doing it).
Though to answer your question on whether they've ever been as divided as the Nux event, I don't think they've reached that point more than once yet, no.
