>>2724188It's not quite as separated as it is with say shipped anime characters and their VAs though. With vtubers they're usually live and streaming is in some way a window into the roommate's life. They're there in real time going through their daily routine, maybe eating snacks/drinks, taking bathroom breaks etc., and that connects them to the character much more directly than one they simply recorded lines for in a studio, which were then patched onto the animations by someone else later. And while people don't usually ship the roommates *directly*, they often include implied stuff going on behind the scenes.
Even in your own example arguably the biggest Kanacoco clip is the one where Coco is crying on stream and Kanata's roommate comes into the room to comfort her and end the stream. That moment is only meaningful because of what's going on behind the camera, while Coco the character/model is just floating frozen from the disconnect. And that's far from the only example of the ship leaking into real life, see Matsuri etc.
