The really mental ones have genuine breakdowns. You can see the fake ones a mile away just by comparing them. Every time Towa cries it is fake. Mori's 1 million sub crying was the fakest I have ever seen.

I believe Aqua's tears since she is mentally a child, she's turned off SC during crying fits before.

I think the couple times when those suicidal dudes SC'd Watame about how she saved them, her crying was 100% legit since it also reminded her of her own shitty times.
But she really does fake it sometimes, I don't think someone would really be this sensitive to the point anyone coming up with a sob story or heartfelt gratitude will driver her to tearing up every single time.

It may surprise you, but people aren't as heartless as you think. Anonimity goes on both ways, you could find pathological liars in this webpage here and there but there's also a lot of honest people who just like sharing their experiences.

On topic, I have no reason to not believe their sad experiences. Big bad boy OP might think that everyone in this world has a cold heart and is there just to take advantage of him, but we all have had shitty experiences and in the case of vtubers, some stories hit them harder and more often because they interact with hundreds of people on a daily basis who can bring topics they didn't know could be sensitive to them.

Not sure about stories, but in general I've the feeling, that a lot is made up or somehow directed by some background instance.

Due to the fact that the avatar is virtual, they can cheat who is really behind the avatar in a lot of produced content.

I'm never sure, who is really "playing" the avatar during singing and dancing or who is singing the songs when they are not performed on stream.

It sounded somehow a bit strange, when Korone said the was on stage dancing with a broken leg.

Does anyone else have this feeling? Am I wrong? I've never read about this.

I'm not complaining about it. It's like professional wrestling. WWE does a lot does deliver a good show and people still think it's real. But putting the fact that it is fake to the background: It's still entertaining.

I guess your oshi has to do a lot besides just streaming like the whole preparation for it and deliver their input for all the marketing stuff the agency does to squeeze more money out of the viewers. And boy: We're talking about quite big numbers if you consider how many people and activities happen in the background (3D models, animations, art, lyrics, legal, acquisition, marketing and so on)
