My heart breaks each time a chuuba mentions 'I'm a virtual youtuber'.
If youre butthurt on why vtubers shouldnt call themselves virtual, how would you feel if you go to the movies and the characters start mentioning theyre actors and bring up behind the scenes stuffs?

most successful holo vtubers in their respective primes owe it all to their character:
korone, ayame, aqua, subaru, pekora, gura.
even though they couldn't keep it up, pretty much all holomems started out pretty dependant on their lore.

For some reason post-Holo era chuubas stay away from edited videos like the plague. It's nothing but streams nowadays.
Virtual youtuber literally means that you can be any youtuber, not limited to live content.

They largely aren't just interactive voice actresses, proven by the very fact that they don't commit to it. Most vtubers exist on the vast spectrum between purely portraying a character and just being themselves while streaming.
All the comparisons to other professions fail not because vtubers are failing at being like those, but because vtubing is its own genre which does not have to exactly emulate others.

Fanart, inside jokes, chuuba branding and maybe they can use for the 3D debut.
Believe or not, having wacky lore and reactions is a huge advantage to gain new viewers and get clipped from real life streamers which are all more or less the same unless you watch them enough to know their personality.

That's why I'm not a big fan of deep complex lore so they can talk about their lifes, it would be easy to mix your own self with your character if you are just an isekai squirrel girl but if you are the manifestation of chaos that existed since the universe was creaged is just awkward
I love Fauna and cope but man they overdid it with their lore
