After becoming adults they searched for a similar person to reproduce this feeling because they didn't want to recognize that their parent was a failure.
To them this is normal after all because their parents did the same thing.
The lesson to learn from this is that you should solve the original issue and not try to force people to give you what they can't.
Recognize that your parents are not god but human beings who made mistakes and that you can find the missing emotional support from other sources. The easiest source being you giving it to yourself and not hoping for someone else to give you what they themselves don't have.
