>>2962485>>2950763To Clarify, the main mantra of a crisis line responder is NOT GIVE ADVICE. That is counter productive, since we are just giving you some quick solution to patch up a big wound which the bandaid obviously will not cover up.
Our purpose as a crisis line responder is to provide the caller with empathy and validation, and show them that the shitty situation that they are currently in IS a shitty situation. Everybody else out there just tell you to suck it up, you can do it, you are not trying hard enough. Crisis line responders are here to tell them "Wow, that really is a shitty situation, it makes perfect sense that you feel that way"
This allow us as responders to spark a tiny bit of hope for the caller, that they still have someone out there, even a complete stranger, who is willing to listen to them and hear out their story. We use this tiny spark of hope to brainstorm the strategy that is RIGHT FOR THE CALLER (Can include: support group, talking with family or friends, find a coping strategy). The point is to just let the caller start moving forward again rather than get stuck in the spot because they are so overwhelmed with emotions and is feeling completely non-functional. If the caller uses Vtubers as a way of coping to keep them moving, go for it. I would call him based and encourage him. Maybe even talk about how to improve yourself so that they can break out of poverty and send superchat for their Oshi. (Obviously, we do not recommend falling into extreme parasocial relationship or superchatting yourself to bankruptcy which is definitely unhealthy.)
As long as you keep moving, there is hope. As long as there is hope, we can keep them from suicide. This is the main purpose of a crisis line responder: emergency venting tool for the caller to keep them from suicide.
Also, it is widely documented that "happy pills" have serious side effects depending on the person and they are not the silver bullet that the pharmacy tells you they are. You really have to work closely with your doctor to find the right one for you.
