>>28775570>yeah but I didnt watch all anime before, and I do the same now. As you said there's always been garbo, but the ratio that has went down is the good anime. Specially anime originals and experimental anime. It should be pretty easy to verify if the rate of originals is actually going down. I'd say in the last few seasons it has definitely (and also, lots of sequels), but this kind of thing comes and goes.
For experimental anime, it's harder to measure what counts as experimental. I do remember that a few years ago there was frequently something a bit weird and new (I have good memories of Kagewani for example), and these days it's less true, but I didn't watch much anime during the pandemic.
>not gonna lie I watched shit like Elfen Lied before, but other than growing out of absolute newfag tier, I don't feel like my standards have changed much, I still look for the same themes and settings as before.I'd say the same, but still, sometimes I rewatch stuff that I like and I don't like it as much. It's hard to realize until you're actually watching them, your memories of the anime and your reaction while watching it are different. It's also rare because most stuff I rewatch is stuff I want to rewatch, so I know it'll be good most of the time.
>Though I'm definitely more open/invested in mahou shoujo and /m/echa than in the old days.Maybe it's a genre thing then? I don't know about anime in general, but for mecha and mahou shoujo it's rare to see anything, and even more rare anything good. On the other hand, as you say, isekai is in its golden age, which means most of it won't be that good.
>>28775881>and in any case, its not a "growing out of it" issue. It's a "change in anime type ratios to target a different kind of demographic" issue maybe. Like the isekai self inserts.Age is part of demographics. Even if anime doesn't change, at some point you will appreciate it less. Isekai self insert is new, but before you had harems in lots of different settings and it basically boils down to the same thing.
As
>>28776155 said, anime has a high cost of entry so original/indie/experimental stuff will always be rare, by design. If you want more new fresh stuff you may look into mangas, or even web novels. Or try to watch more anime hoping to find a good one
