The content of your post means everything, while your identity is completely meaningless. This makes more people feel inclined to give their honest thoughts about things, if that's their intention. Compared to other websites, posts are sorted here by order of when they were posted. Elsewhere, they're sorted by how many people upvote you. This directly enables a circlejerk, because despite it not being the intended purpose, people will certainly upvote things they agree with, and downvote things they disagree with, just because they agree or disagree. Dissenting opinions are pushed further down where less people will read it.
A poster in other places will think "This message I'm about to send will be associated with my account, which people will be able to look up later on", and if they get past that hurdle and actually post what they feel like saying, they have to deal with the gauntlet of people pushing down their input just because they don't like it.
It's a two-step process that psychologically manipulates you into not posting unless you have something very positive to say that people will like, because otherwise you are looked down upon by others, they will remember your name, and carry that negative opinion of you with them for as long as they care to remember.
The same happens on Discord servers; while there are no downvotes or upvotes, there certainly is clique-like behavior. The topic initially starts out as the vtuber, but it strays further and further from the topic of the vtuber, until the point where you realize that you've joined a server that uses vtubers as a front for the owners to prop up their own popularity among the fanbase, and possibly serve as a vehicle to gain recognition from the vtuber their server is in "service to", as a fan server is seen by some as a nice thing to build, so the person who set up the popular one gets credit for that.
These are only some of the reasons why, despite all the shitposting, the bait, the falseflags, the dramabaiting, the metaposting, the rampant schizophrenia, off-topic IRL shit, etc. that I think 4chan is the best place for English-speaking people to discuss vtubers.
It's anonymous enough that people don't prop other posters up on a pedestal, you can't be downvoted for sharing your honest thoughts, you don't have to suck the owner's cock, most vtubers certainly aren't going to want to mention this place directly, and while a bunch of shit gets posted here, the pros I've listed outweigh the cons.
