I'm ~13k words into the Kronii fic I'm writing. The original idea was Kronii goes from model skinny to at least partial immobility but she's been the same moderately chubby weight for the past 10k-ish words while I set up how things get out of control for her. The plan was she gets injured but I didn't want to do a sports injury again since the Subaru fic already had that. I ended up with Reine is super pissed off at Kronii and beats her up but goes too far and Kronii ends up in the hospital. But I didn't want to just portray Reine as a lunatic getting that mad about Kronii saying one thing so I had to flesh out her reasoning for being so incredibly mad. So I've been writing a whole thing where behind the scenes Reine's family is implied to be seedy underbelly Indonesian mafia type people with Reine as daddy's girl who can do whatever she wants and Kronii sticks her nose too far into where it doesn't belong. But then I had to write reasonable motivation for her to be poking around and essentially ended up with I don't know how many paragraphs now of this subplot in Indonesia staring Reine as the boss, Ollie as a morbidly obese, hedonistic sex pervert and Reine's personal toy, Moona as an unwilling but trapped cohort and Risu as like a sympathetic tries to help Kronii without getting caught double agent. I think I did a pretty decent job writing it and I'm about to the point where Reine's uncontrollable anger is fully justified and I can wrap up the sub plot, and the increasingly darkening tone I think flows nicely into the next part with Irys. The problem is that I'm going to end up taking 15k+ words in total just for set up, which, while engaging, doesn't really involve Kronii getting fat at all, since that will all be with Irys and at ~15k of little weight related content outside of scenes with Ollie and the initial set up with Kronii, it feels like I might as well just be writing regular fanfiction at that point.
TL;DR For people who read my fics, are my really long ones engaging enough that you don't mind me taking a while to get to "the good part" or are they just too much?
