>>29312134What made this series was level design, which is complete dogshit in the vast majority of Elden Ring. Boss design is a continuation of the mistakes made in Dark Souls III, and even worse in every way. In part due to them wanting to make the game more accessible with the spirit ash system. Not a single boss fight in Elden Ring is an actually unique, memorable encounter, it's just an empty room where you react to a moveset. It's a game where every boss is Artorias without any of them being nearly as cool as the original.
There were some good fights, like Placidusax, Malenia (despite being more of a Kingdom Hearts boss than a Souls one), Rykard and Rennala, but there were far too many garbage ones, even among the main bosses, let alone the chalice dungeon shit fodder scattered throughout the world. I actually really liked the Fire Giant too, but I think even people who loved the game hate that one, so yeah, not gonna use as an example of great boss design.
