the skill part is managing the probablities. Getting a 32k isn't the proof of a good player. Avoiding to deal the winning tile to another player is. Mahjong is fundamentally defensive at high level.

High level mahjong is managing luck and bullshit moments. The best defense can never beat sheer luck, it's a game where you can get fucked on the first tile you discard. That's the greatest strength of mahjong and its greatest weakness. It's thrilling and also completely bullshit.
