Getting someone who looks amazing on paper, but who will use your company as a stepping stone to become competition later, is a nightmare, second only to getting someone who can use their abilities and popularity as clout to shove you around. No upper management sees themselves as subordinate to the wishes of their talent. It's in the name - management.
It's not entirely unlikely for a hiring team to prefer uninspired ho-hum talents over a rock star who has the clout to 'subtly' threaten management if they don't get their way, or someone who might just go 'you know what, fuck your delays, I'm gonna become a doctor'
