>>30721209>>30721624Austrian here. I'm not really up to date with the gun laws here, because I don't care, but I will try to explain what I know.
There are 4 categories of guns. Cat. A are illegal and consist of "weapons of war" and that kind of stuff. That includes machine guns, but also any gun that was used in a war, for example an SKS. Pump-action shotguns are cat. A too for whatever reason.
Cat. B weapons are handguns and semi-auto rifles/shotguns which don't fall into cat. A. You need to have a license for them, and you are only allowed to 2 at the start. You can upgrade up to a max of 5.
Cat. C are all rifles that don't fall into the previous categories and Cat. D are break action shotguns. The same rules apply to both of these categories now, but they used to be different. Pretty much anyone can own them, but you have to register them. I think there's also a 3 day waiting period if you want to purchase them from a licensed dealer. There are also rules that regulate how you have to store them. I think you need to keep them in a gun safe, but I'm not 100% sure. You might also get surprise visits from the police to check if you follow the laws, but I don't know if that applies to weapons of all categories.
Getting a licence is pretty easy, unless you are a able bodied man and didn't do military service.
