The disregard for animals here is to a concerning degree, I used to be into reptiles and bugs so I would go to these exotic animal conventions to get some rare tarantula species or whatever and there are really no words to describe how fucking insane it is, they had absolutely everything for sale with zero vetting. Like eagles and owls chained up on branches, monkeys (real ones not whatever the fuck pegora got) in tiny cages like rattling the bars, fennecs, otters, fucking sloth, whatever kind of weird exotic mammal you can think of, endangered species, crocodiles, Parsons chameleons, I saw a gila monster on sale once. And you could just walk up and buy them in cash for like a few 100k yen and take it home that day. By nip standards that thing peko bought is pretty reasonable.
