Colors are trademarked, you idiots. In fact, they’re the only thing that’s automatically trademarked without filing papers. As long as your brand is well known enough, you can sue competitors for using your color if you can prove they’re trying to pretend to be you.
If you’re a soda company and make up a logo that’s similar to Coke’s and uses the color red just like Coke, they can still sue you.
I have no idea if Melody would win, and I doubt she’d actually sue. But “she doesn’t own the color purple” is bullshit.
In contexts where it could reasonably be confused with her, Melody DOES own the color purple.
Some well-known anime girl from another IP with purple hair? Ok. Generic anime girl on a gun in Melody’s color with the word Melody in the gun’s name? Not ok, or at the very least, only something a big corporation would ever try to get away with
