Therefore the male reproduction strategy is 2-fold.
He wants to spread his genes as far and wide as possible by having sex with as many women as he can. But he also wants to settle down with a woman to raise a couple high-investment offspring. That way he has quality, as well as quantity. So the man will divide women into two groups: sluts and virgins. The women he wants to fuck, and the women he actually wants to marry.
Women want to be in the second category, but that one is very difficult. It's arguably harder to become a man's one-true wife than it is win the love of a woman. Sex is easy for a woman, but sex is not what they're after. It's the commitment (so she doesn't fucking die or get forced into poverty raising some guy's kid who abandons her)
For a woman, her strategy is different. She needs a provider. But she also wants the best genes for her children. It's likely she can't get the best man to fall in love with her, but getting him to fuck her is easy as pie. So her strategy is to marry the rich man, and then fuck the alpha man behind his back so her kids get the best genes. That is the female dating strategy.
The purpose of our culture and our laws is to stop this from happening. Stop men from sleeping with a billion women, and stop women from cheating on their husbands. That provides the most harmonious solution for everyone and minimizes social conflict.
