attitudes have changed since the 90's economic crash and the resulting significant slowdown to the country as well as the aging population.
of course i can't speak 100% for a country that isn't my home, but i've heard white men in japan are the most interesting/least treated badly of all foreigner groups.
next to them are haffus, which are treated better i think? i lose the plot around here but apparently a good amount of them pass as Japanese while still being cool and interesting.
japan has accepted the necessity to become even more open to the world, specifically the west, in light of economic burdens and new threats.
