It also failed to grasp anyone simply because it oversaturated it's own market with content before it was able to grow into something. The series has light novels, manga, video games etc. and that was before such media had largely moved to the internet, getting -into- .hack// took at lot of effort. The games themselves has one of the best representation of what mmos at the time were like and probably the best representation of what people getting stuck in a video game would actually react like, panic and despair.
>>32127259Also this, .hack//Sign has a massive issue in pacing, as the story comes to a crawling halt, there's a lot of time where the characters just talk to one another. It's interesting if you are fascinated by what the inner workings and motivations of the characters are, but that in turn can also be incredibly tedius.
Give it a shot if you think it could be interesting, but expect a very slow moving story.
