for me when i got down to 150 or so my metabolism basically ground to a halt so it became difficult to drop any more weight, and i still had some fat but like zero muscle mass so i just looked like a dipshit. not a great foundation for weight training either

Fool notion. Building muscle increases basal metabolic rate, which means lower fat build up; something neither cutting calories or doing cardio provides (which is why people trying these things always rebound).

I know you can get more bang for you bucks by dehydrating yourself for days before the weighting to skirt the weight class limit then rehydrate before a match but I've never heard of someone forcefully drinking 10+ liters of water to try to gain weight for a sport. Plus we're not talking about a professional athlete here but an average person.
