Mumei definitely does not speak enough Japanese to have come up with the pun in her name herself. Kronii, Mori, and Fauna’s names contain more Greek and Latin references, and I have more faith in my ability to drink bleach and survive than in the idea that any of them except maybe Fauna know enough Classics to come up with those references themselves.
Basically the only one in EN that probably had some input into her character’s name is Kiara. That’s a common name in Germany and Austria, and it’s spelled “Chiara” because it’s originally Italian. Kiara probably realized it was a good name that sounded kind Japanese but still stuck out as foreign (like Monika from DDLC), and suggested it to them with the “Ch” replaced with a “K” to make it look less Italian.
I wouldn’t be surprised if her previous experience in the idol industry made her more likely to offer suggestions and for them to listen to her input.
