They have backups, but not recent backup.
They had the choice of either (1) restoring to a really old backup and lose all recent works (mainly from the guys) within the last 5-6 months on the server, or (2) biting the bullet and rebuild what was lost (mainly old stuffs around the original spawn point). They picked the latter to keep the newer stuffs, so old buildings are gone

The world of vtubers is, to a large extent, sharing the same people. The people who watch fauna, and the people who watch gura, are the same. It's the same pool of viewers that gets shared around.

People like Kyo and Scarle might not have a high viewer total (yet anyway). But they are bringing in new people. That makes them valuable. I'd rather have 1000 new viewers, rather than 1000 of the same old viewers being passed around between everyone.
