It's not a matter of shit taste or anything like that. Women in general tend to take the easy route and just make (or have someone else make for them) what's popular. You can name ten, or a hundred, or a thousand female vtubers who dabble in other genres, but they're not the majority.

Quite a lot of them. Mainly indies because they don't have the corpo money or connections, but there are some corpos who do most of the stuff themselves (composing, lyrics, mixing, editing the MV, etc.).
Knowing how to play at least one instrument at a proficient level helps a lot.

because they are lazy and passionless? if they like music so much they would learn an instrument thus learn music theory aswell, yes it is still hard but knowing that the chord progression and melody of a song isnt random and you basically only need to use 7 notes and 6 chord (fuck you half diminished) and an instrument to start writing something is helpful.

Unfortunately, popularity removes the effort. Sometimes I wish Holos had stayed 2views because at least then they'd try a bit to make something. Maybe then someone like Sora and Luna would take their piano reps seriously.
