The consensus was that it was total bullshit, there's no such thing as "incompatible data", different file formats sure but all that data can be easily converted.
What most likely happened is that the data came in a file format Cover's barely competent employees didn't recognize, and instead of taking literally 5 minutes to figure out how to work with it, they simply told their bosses they couldn't do the job.
