>>34152765They still have fans because -
a.) Unlike in Japan where they can be pretty squarely unified under otaku culture vs riajuu normalfag culture and not have to worry about how things look worldwide, the EN chubbas spread across a giant range of people and cultures and so the odds of people who don't understand a fucking thing about otaku or idols are gonna be way way higher. These types will stand up and be proudly loudly ignorant about this fact, and gleefully knock down the platform that actually made Hololive rise to prominence in the first place because they do not comprehend that it's destructive.
They will cite the very early days of Holo when a handful of random male/other vtuber collabs happened and act as if JP does that all the time still, and do not acknowledge (in fact, probably don't know) that in those days, most Holos were literal 2-3views, and that they've dropped that stance for like 4 years now - and only started inclining when they did, because as was said earlier, it made them stand out. Making people look like anime girls is only half the battle. Making them act convincingly like anime girls = way more success, because it feels way closer to 2D made real rather than watching a mockery of 2D culture in pantomime like it does with many others. Losing sight of that is losing what gave Cover its edge.
b.) Said lack of cohesion between cultures and approaches means Pedro from Mexico, Pedro from Argentina and Pedro from the Philippines (all 12-14 years old) have no frame of reference/comprehension of why they even like Holos (it's CGDCT and/or waifuing them) and just see that someone speaking out against something a Holo decided to do, must be anti behavior, so they will take on literal beta orbiter behavior trying to whiteknight the girls in absentia assuming it's what they'd want. They think they're protecting their oshis which means shitting on anyone who makes even a faint shadow of accusation or criticism about anything they do - EVEN if that's responding to the girl herself shitting on the fans. Rules #1-100 of vtubing should be "never shit on any of the fans for any reason."
c.) Management clearly doesn't understand a lot either, and is making the problem worse. Mori said right away "don't go beg the other girls for Stars collabs" and yet the holo leddit is showing huge pro-Tempus leeway and you're not even allowed to highlight the fact now. The basic rules of the road were designed for them to somewhat stay in separate lanes, ergo people can and will call out when there's too much crossover because because assumed management knew what they were doing, in that they aren't out to just copy NijiEN and that being Stars means they're generally their own deal like StarsJP. Now it's very much a "the emperor has no clothes" situation there.
