> Q. I would like to ask you about "Lie:verse Liars. We have been reading a lot of articles about it in our media, and we feel that it is attracting a lot of attention. Please tell us from the beginning.A. Lie:verse Liars" is actually a project that was launched quite some time ago, since I first created the proposal in June 2020. Today, the situation has changed in many ways, but in 2020, VTuber content often followed [real] media, such as appearing in real TV shows or appearing as a character and voice actor in anime, and there were not that many projects for "things only VTubers can do".
So I asked myself, "What can VTubers do that only VTubers can do"? When I thought about it, it occurred to me that the person themselves could play a role and appear in manga and other IP. The thinking was that 'only a VTuber who possesses the dual nature of "being both a character and a person" could truly "appear" in certain IPs'.
The year 2020 was also the time when NijiSanji Livers had just started their artist activities. Now in 2022, our livers are getting more opportunities to sing OPs and EDs in several works, so we thought "We can make it all happen in a [one-stop shop],". The idea gradually grew to "create our own IP, have the Livers perform in it, and if it becomes an anime, the Livers can sing the opening and ending songs as well". This would give the Livers a new opportunity to play an active role.
In addition, from the start-up phase of this project, we consulted with several livers to get their opinions.
One opinion that was clearly reflected was the ratio of voice actors. Initially, we were thinking of having a 5:5 ratio of Voice Actors to our Livers, but their opinion was that "We want all the performers to be Livers".
While reflecting these various opinions, I also had another goal in mind. I thought that by working with professional voice actors, there would be many technical benefits for the performers as well. We also have some livers who are interested in voice acting, and we thought that if they could sit in with professionals onsite, they could learn a lot by watching how they perform. Therefore, we decided to ask professional voice actors to play some parts of the cast, such as the Protagonist and the Heroine, while the rest of the cast will be played by the livers.
Fucking lmao they're side-characters in their own IP.> Q. When we looked at fan reactions to "Lie:verse Liars", there was a strong sense of anticipation, like "What would xxx liver do when they appear?". It seems the concept of this project itself has been conveyed, and all that's left is eagerly waiting for the performance of the livers themselves.A. I believe that in the future, those who find the work interesting may become interested in our livers from there. We believe that we can also reach people who don't usually watch YouTube, but read manga on apps. It would be great if they became interested in the work and said, "Oh, I didn't know that this person who appears in this work is also involved in other activities," just like buying a CD of a voice actor they know from an anime. I hope that this will become an approach to attracting fans outside of YouTube.
> Q. Are there any distinctive parts about this work in particular that stands out from other media mix works that already exist? We are a [content maker], but before that, we are a "management office". Therefore, from our point of view, the important part to think about is "how to get various people to see our livers".
For example, as a way of [approaching] the manga-reading audience, we have been developing comic books such as "Niji Sanji Gakuen" and "Sanbaka~Nibaru," but I think these were "contents to let fans enjoy Nijisanji more" rather than "to increase the number of new fans. On the other hand, this project is based on the idea that "in order for new people to get to know us, we have to create new works".
Therefore, the starting point of our thinking is "how do we expand our livers' reach?". Our goal is not just "expand the IP," and I think this is a big difference from other media mix works.
