it's mostly an open-world grinding sim, you get money and do stuff to invest what you get into better ways of raising your stats and doing stuff.
Buy a ranch to farm creatures to cook their corpses for permanent stat upgrades, buy a museum and fill it with card drops from creatures for a source of permanent income, run a shop and staff it with a companion to sell things for better prices, etc etc
It's got a proper story but most of the game will be spend doing as you please, as most of the story content takes a decent bit of powering up.
You're intended to roleplay a bit, but it is genuinely a good game regardless. early on you'll get your ass kicked, but it's worth it to figure out. you CAN fuck the tank (and any other creature in the game if you make them into a companion/pet.)
