This is a bad thing because a week or two before HoloFes they were moralfagging about how they respect artists and how they wouldn't try to get a service like that for free. Not to mention they didn't even own up to it. If I recall correctly, their excuse was that they just wanted to see what emotes the stream had. Utterly embarrassing. you also have to take into account that it's in poor taste to do that as a vtuber since you would be saying you don't respect their work enough to pay for it.

Some women are horribly ugly and/or obese. No tranny is as hot as an actual hot woman, and the large majority are nowhere near.
And for even the hot ones, it takes a lot of constant work and often favourable angles/lighting, and their peak window is much shorter than a woman's with a much steeper drop off.
