Honestly, is it really worth it becoming a corpo chuuba unless want to make big bucks, get close to your oshi or want to network with big names? Hololive/stars EN:>much more restrictive compared to other options in terms of type of content >a bit sterile, sometimes awkward interactions >at least for the EN branch, despite claiming not being idols, they clearly have an interest in you engaging in idol-ish activites such as singing, dancing, making covers, publishing OC songs >tendency towards lore heavy themed branches making it hard for you finding your groove due to raised expectations beforehand >additional handicap if you're male and part of holostars due to problematic relationship with the female only branches >seem to support individual talents more, but also have a far up raised bar in terms of expectations and what you bring as a talent (but also allow some literal 1view nobodies to enter every now and then) NijiEN:>first few female only branches were a more or less random asortment of different talents with hardly any common theme, newer male branches have a clear tendency of pandering towards certain crowds, seemingly not much room for more individuality >after getting thrown into the water, you are pretty much on your own and have to fight for survival or you will be doomed to become a 3 view >the type of humor that has developed in the EN branch and is shared by a majority of the talents is not for everyone, heavily influenced by twitch with openly vulgar nuances >seemingly more open towards more diverse content, yet hardly any "breakouts" and many run of the mill normie tier talents with equally boring or exchangable archives, leaving the question if people with more special niche "out there" interests or talents are not appreciated or don't even apply in first place based on an idea of being "mass marketable" >don't come off as stiff or sterile, but also not as "polished" in certain aspects It seems so tiresome if you have your own ideas of what you want to do and make, when there's already an established preconception about what you will be and where you need to go. Sadly can't tell much about the startups since I don't follow them as closely, but I'm kind of wondering what could drive you towards them when you're for example already a relatively successful 2-3 view with higher 4 digit to lower 5 digits followers. Can you network there just as well? Is it the managerial support that makes it worth to have 30-50% of your income cut? What are the entry standards for small corpos nowadays?

>>34633082 There are pros and cons of being corpo vs being indie. Obviously you'll make more money as a corpo, but you lose a lot of freedom on what you can do. You don't need permissions as an indie, and you can get away with using emulators for all the shit you want to play, stuff that wouldn't fly if you were corpo. It all really depends on what your goal is.

>>34633082 The ideal situation is to join a corpo to gain an audience immediately and then graduate into an indie once you can
The most prominent example would be kson
When she graduated from her holo career, she actually retained much of her tatsunokos
But she didn't fully capitalize on the talent freedom aspects of being an indie, and her audience gradually reclined
And then she joined semi-corpo vshojo, which also didn't really help

>>34633082 If you can make it as a indie, no.
If you can't, then corpo is definitely the way to go. Even the smaller ones already have some regular simps who will throw some bucks at you. Also the corpo will give you some salary even if you don't get any tips from simps.
It's literally better than being a 0view and getting no money.

>>34633082 I don't know anything about corpo's from the talent side but as a consoomer what a corpo does is it gives me a brand to tell me "If you like this chuubas style and content here are some others you might like aswell". It also creates a ready made environment of talents who can and will interact with each-other and that's fun to see awell.
Indie's are good and have their own appeal too but that's why I like to watch corpo's. I watch the Kawaii girls, just for reference.

>Much more exposure, sure to get a good chance at getting a fairly large audience unless you blow it by being a horrible entertainer/streamer. >If you like singing, dancing, idol stuff you'll be in a good place for that. Lots of coworkers who share that, at least in JP. >Heavy handed lore without actual understanding the purpose of lore in the first place, possibility of getting shafted by management with fucking TERRIBLE lore. >Higher standard, won't allow you to make certain content or comments, come off as too uptight for some. Good if you naturally drift towards corporate friendly content, Coco was proof you could push the line if you knew how and were persistent enough. >Bigger brand, could get you better deals with things like merch collabs, etc. >May have to pick a side in simmering Holo/Stars war. Niji EN
>Smaller, less viewers, and they come out faster leading weaker talents to be forgotten and bigger talents to be shilled, pushed and worked even harder by their management. >No expectation of separating from men if that's a concern for you. >Female talents tend to be weaker than male talents, could be pro or con depending on you. >Heavy Chinese influence, company went public lately which is usually a very bad indicator for the future. >Less tightly managed, can say and do more. Good or bad thing depending on what you choose to do with it. >Very "twitchy" feeling to it, MANY of your coworkers will tell vulgar jokes and use vulgar language frequently, too often for some. Comes off as low class to some viewers. Depends on you and where you're going and what you want out of it. I could do a Stars one too but maybe later, though that one would be more fun.

HoloJP. Basic bitch trend chasers playing the same game a million times until you get bored of it. They used to try to so hard back in 2021 but not anymore in 2022. Seems like most people haven't noticed the shift and obvious decline. Doesn't even seem like they're trying anymore.

>>34633082 100% yes. If you know any of these people's former / current RM accounts, you'd know they're absolutely nowhere near as popular as being a corporate talent, doubly so for Cover talents.
Being with an agency, especially the biggest one like Cover, you just have so much more exposure / connections.
There's a reason that there are very few big name indies out there; they never reach near the numbers that a company gives.

Depends on your goals. If you want to just be chill and part-time, being indie is fine. If you want to "make it" in the industry, then your end goal is the top two groups in the industry - Nijisanji or Hololive.

if you want to do vtubing as a hobby you can make the argument that you're better off staying indie, but if you want to do vtubing as a real job with which you can support yourself it's corpo or bust, unless you are lucky enough to be one in a million indies that actually blows up

If you want to earn money, only go for Holo/Niji. If you don’t get in, it’s better to just go Indie than the other small corpos. If you’re a good streamer, you’ll see substantial growth on your channel anyway, as long as it’s on Twitch and you network right.
