These two ideas are compatible. No one follows Vtubers exclusively for their talent, and talent does make a meaningful difference for streamers to grow their platform because other factors come into play.
I love Ame, but I'm not actively watching every stream from her only because she's creative with her platform. As I said, Ame has an engaging on-camera personality, and she's funny and lovable.
