Started out with clips, had a laugh, tried getting into streams but was never overly interested.
Then a dumb girl came along that was really endearing, i picked her up a after a stumbling in on the wrong stream, but generally i just listen to her at work and it's nice to have a bubbly girl talk enthusiastically in my ear about whatever she's doing, helps break up the monotony and gives motivation to work on my own stuff outside of work.

It's fun, with a (sometimes) fun fandom. There is more content being made by vtubers in a single day than an entire season of anime puts out. Even if you don't like 99% of it there's so much of that 1% that it'll probably keep you coming back.

I already watched streamers and consumed japanese media before vtubers, it merely got me into a new hobby. Depending on who you watch, it's very good transformative content. With the addition of the fandom and even the talents leaning into the parasocial aspect, I honestly feel a sense of belonging for the first time on the Internet.

I used them as a medium to learn japanese back in 2019. since then, I've also learned a lot about editing, drawing and animation to make fan-content.

basically just channeling watching streamers into a way to better myself. to be fair, it didn't have to be vtubers but it just aligned with my interests at the time since I liked to watch anime and this was basically livestreamed anime
