She was founded by Activ8, and managed by upd8 (an agency that provides support for Vtubers, but not intended to create/control the Vtubers themselves). At this point Activ8/upd8 realized that they want more profits from the Kizuna AI brands, which led to the whole "four Kizuna AI" saga. Supposedly this was done with the blessing of Ai herself, but her roommate's tweets indicated that this was forced upon her by management. Years of overwork and mismanagement led to Ai's indefinite break.
As for Polkahime, her twitter account was hijacked by management. Her managers were also in her ears telling her who she can and can't collab with. During her streams, she would have managers literally in her ears telling her what she can and cannot say. This eventually led to her graduation and joining Hololive. If you watch Polka Densetsu, Polka herself repeatedly said how much she appreciates Cover's management for letting her do what she wants.
>.LIVEThis agency was basically proto-Hololive with majority being CGDCT type of Vtubers. There was a .LIVE's vtuber name Tama, who was the precursor of the indie Sio, who claimed she was being bullied by her fellow workers and managers. This led to several .LIVE members to graduate or suspend their activities. Later it turned out that the bullying allegations were all lies, but at this point the damage was already done and .LIVE lost most of their fans. Most of these fans ended up switching to Nijisanji and Hololive.
