She did mention something along those lines and if you're one of those people who struggled with money and didn't chat much in general, it's very possible
if you see no other option than to go then you can at least try to figure out the best way to show her of the memories you made with her as proof instead of simply using words to apologize and merely banking on unproven vaguery
I don't know your full situation but maybe showing her the full extent of that connection between you and her as well as you can will end up meaningful in some way, regardless of the result
