When Youtube changed its procedure and fucked up their bots, Hololive suffered a massive drop in their viewer numbers. They were being cut in half or more. The numbers thread went completely apeshit about this and started furiously contacting the youtube staff on twitter telling them to change it back. Part of their "evidence" for undercounting was the fact that polls were a lot larger than the viewer numbers. But that's because they bot the polls too.
Nowadays we're seeing bizarre glitches in the viewercounts happening all the time. Probably because Youtube's viewer verification algorithm is dropping and reconfirming people. We're also seeing massive culls in the vod numbers, because many of these views accumulated on he videos are simply not legitimate.
These viewcounts are, to a large extent, hot air.
I think the effort to sell vtubers based on their viewercount, basically the entire reason the numbers thread exists, is being orchestrated by these people.
