I sort of realize that, but I’m still not exactly sure what that means. I’m assuming that a lot of Americans would have a hard time listing them out on a piece of paper, but could they label them all on a blank map? Does it mean there are some states obscure enough that some people forget it’s a state?
I’m literally too autistic to know what an “obscure” state is to other Americans. Montana? That’s not obscure. South Dakota? There’s only two pairs of states with North and South, how are you supposed to forget them. Nevada, Wyoming, Minnesota, Delaware? They’re all too recognizable to me. I actually don’t understand.

I know every country in Africa too. Ironically, it’s because one day I said to myself, “If everyone knows the fifty states, I should probably make sure I know all the countries in Africa to not be disrespectful.”
This was when I was still in high school and didn’t realize that…some people still didn’t know all the states.

I’m saying this from personal experience. I don’t generally say this sort of shit because my fellow amerimutts have their heads stuck up their asses. I posted a few questions about Canadian geography and history in a large d*scord group, and the Canadians there literally all thought I was a Canadian.
I would never say something as offensive as that unless I was so mind-broken I had no choice but to accept it as true. Trust me on this. I highly doubt most Canadians know what the King-Byng Affair was or which provinces the social credit party was most popular in. At this point, I don’t even know if most Canadians know which province was the last to join Confederation or even what the Durham Report was.

I *think* most Canadians know they didn’t really become fully independent from the UK until 1982, but I’m not sure if they realized when they basically became independent in all the important parts (1931) or when they stopped being British citizens (1946).

I like history and can rattle off obscure Roman facts but I would be pretty hard pressed to fill a blank US map with the states and capitals.

If it's not something you're taught it's not something you're gonna suddenly know because it's not critical information on the day to day. You can blame the education system sure but I don't really blame people for not knowing geography.

I do mechanical design as a job btw

Because we were literally not taught shit in history class in our schools. The provinces and territories are easier to remember since there isn't fucking 50 of them in total, but Canadian history is basically taught as "A bunch of pioneers had a chill time with the natives, spanked beavers for their fur to sell back to Europeans, and then we proceeded to fuck over the natives anyway." And all of this history has basically nothing to relate with the majority of "new" Canadians that have come to this country since Trudeau Senior opened the floodgates almost 50 years ago. Enna being one of them, of course.

It's basically the same thing as getting anyone but Black people to give a single shit about Black History Month, when they have absolutely nothing to relate with that history.

All the stuff listed in >>35265732 is actually stuff in the standard Canadian curriculum, actually (to the point I suspect it's bait too, but the origins of Social Credit isn't a standard feature in textbooks - maybe if it was the NDP instead). Whether teachers actually end up covering them in practice and whether kids end up remembering them years later is another thing.
