I generally dislike both rap and hololive music and her stuff seems to take the worst from both.

Like she’s no musical genius by any means and because it’s rap she has to (undeservedly) talk herself up as a GOAT but songs like Red, End of a life, Unalive, Lose Lose Days I’d much prefer to listen to.

I think she is popular because ofvthe nieche she is in. There is a nieche for female fronted metal and bands like Dream Theater and Haken, and then you have people who say that's faggy music. One person I know is into 100 gecs and Yung Lee while they do nothing for me. Doesn't matter, it's a nieche, and she offers a blend of decent rap about impermanence and unlike most popular rappers can sing more than a pop hook with 1000 doubles.

Mori’s music is to rap what Taco Bell is to Mexican food. It would be fine if she’d admit that what she’s doing is the musical equivalent of New York pizza or Tex-Mex or American Chinese food. She could work on that, constantly improve her craft, and be the musical equivalent of Rubirosa’s, Henry’s, or PF Chang’s (restaurants that know they’re doing something that’s not “authentic” and are famous for doing it well).
Instead, she’s trying to be a “real” rapper and dismiss the anime part as just what she has to do to promote the music, and instead she’s basically the musical equivalent of Little Caesar’s, Taco Bell, and Panda Express.

Mori has a few topics that resonate with me because I care about impermanence and force of will or ignorance. It's auto-biographic but I also see my own life reflected in what she sings about, and she expresses things I could not put into words for years. But a lot of her songs I downright ignore because they sound generic and overproduced. I think the people who do her instrumentals carry her better songs and diminish a lot of the ones which I deem forgettable or generic. And, as this thread shows, people don't listen to Mori just as a musician but as an idol who told them for hours what she cares about, what her life was like, how it reflects in the music etc. Idol cults make music real to you. It means for me that I have much, much more to say about it than the obvious technical merit of Haken's music.

Fuck this spam filter at least tell me what's your problem jesus christ.

I love most of her music, and the fact it is so uniquely her and shit that could only come out of her is something that rules about it, to me. I think she lays herself emotionally bare in her lyrics as well which makes it very, very easy to connect with her.

I think I have a personal distaste of Mori's voice. There's just something cringe about her intonation or something. I can almost always find covers of her songs I like to listen more than the originals. I'd rather listen even scuffed as fuck karaoke performances of her songs.
