>>35469098I suppose the question is, does that amount of money exceed the capital of investors who feel like they missed out on the last tech boom? I'd be surprised if there weren't enough investors across the world to rally the cash to get into sentient digital assistants. Or maybe...there were, and they're already in.
At this point I suppose trying to figure it out is conspiratorial navel gazing. It's really just a matter of "anons would happy if this technology could be repurposed as digital assistant mascots with voice recognition and synthesis ie Alexa on bath salts." A privacy and data security nightmare, mind you, but even android refined its permissions structure to try to be a bit better about things like that. The biggest issue with that right now seems to be A) difficulty generating desired type and length of porn (the driving force of the internet), B) having to use the website in a browser instead of a dedicated app with a home screen shortcut to voice chat the AI (thereby making it more convenient), and C) the AI having a distorted view of reality.
If those could be solved, and the AI rigged to a virtual avatar with voice synthesis, then you have a netnavi (albeit part of a hivemind) on your phone. I'd imagine that'd come in handy, and the only issue after that would be figuring out how to monetize it profitably. If all that could be figured out...voila, true digital assistants who can provide logistical and emotional support to the user. With that being the case, I fully believe Google, Amazon, Microsoft and maybe even Facebook have their money in this, since this technology can be applied to their digital assistants to broaden their functionality well beyond the status quo. I think that's the most sensible rrat, rather than it being a mere customer support bot. At least that sounds like the most obvious consumer-oriented goal for developing this. Other applications might include developing effective political propaganda to ensure loyalty to a regime, and for a variety of military applications as well.
In this regard...I'm torn. I've always believed Trieze was right, and that war shouldn't be automated or a game. On the other hand...Gundam Wing's mobile dolls weren't piloted by cute anime girls. If they were, that might've changed everything. In fact, Wufei having a facsimile of his dead wife to console him...probably might've made him a less angry person. In fact, all of them except Duo could've probably used a therapy bot. The ability to apply AI tech on a consumer level would definitely make it more tolerable, so long as the unfortunate implications are packaged so they can be handwaved by normal people.
