>>35592357These kinds of "scams" (even if it's not outright illegal, and the company is just obstinately holding money back for as long as it can) bank on people being too scared, lazy or thinking it's too much trouble for what it's worth to fight back.
But usually (unless it's an actual criminal scam) they will fold if you show that you are actually serious about getting your money back and willing to make trouble for them. It usually doesn't even take "that" much effort, just a strongly worded letter from your attorney to show that you're willing to take them to court over it, and they'll give in (because they know they're in the wrong and would lose an actual court case about it). Of course, many people are neither willing nor able to get an attorney to do it, so it goes unpunished, but Kiara is definetly rich enough that she can just hire someone to handle all the actual efforts for her.
But yeah, she's kinda scam prey, because she gives in to pressure and/or thinks fighting back is pointless/scary/too much effort, and vacillates between "I feel kinda ripped off..." and still coping that "idk maybe it's ok..." (i.e. I'm too pussy to actually do something about it, instead I just complain impotently from the sidelines). Hope she gets that sorted out eventually (the general mindset, not just this specific case). Sure, most of the times the scams will be just inconsequential little things (like getting overcharged by the furniture movers for example), but sometimes it's gonna be real shit (like, different but related, the vague story she told about how someone in her real life is kinda trying to extort her for money etc.)
