Rather than making me hope it's not permanent or hope he'll change his mind, to me it's more that it makes me question my own place as one of his fans moving forward. It sounds a bit overdramatic to have this reaction because of the design, we all love the person behind it, after all, and I'm pretty surprised at this myself, but it makes sense in retrospect.
It's not like this one thing changed everything from heaven to hell, I was already feeling a bit distanced from vtubing in general for a few months, maybe a bit of burnout, so it's more of a gentle final push saying "yeah, just close your memberships for now, take an extended break".
Ultimately, when they make this kind of change, they're well aware that it'll be a deal breaker for some people. But they're betting that they'll please more of their fans than they'll disappoint. Or that they'll bring in more new people than they're gonna lose. I wish him the best and hope he's right on both accounts, but I'm afraid I'll be on the other side.
