oh god I've been thrown from /vg/ to /g/ to -here- to just find a thread about
Character.AI. Why is /vt/ the one to take it in, of all places?
Anyways, after checking out the guides I've seen here, I've noticed that they're all omitting a huge influencing factor in determining how a Character will respond to you. And from the screenshots I've seen, it doesn't seem like it's widely known, either?
The guides don't bring this up (probably because it's not in any of the character creation screens), but YOUR name has a colossal impact on how the AI will interpret your inputs, especially if you're trying to accomplish text generation from a third-person perspective. You can change your Name (I specify Name, your Username has no effect on the AI) on your profile, and I reccomend that you do this unless you're a parasocial freak that wants to use their real name.
Examples of good usernames:
Occupation or occupation + name
Examples: Director | Producer | Manager or Officer Justin | Sheriff Thompson | Professor Mendoza
The character will immediately interpet you as being of that occupation from the get go, and will not forget it because it is literally your name entry.
Director is ESPECIALLY helpful because you can essentially order your character around as early as the first response when paired with the right greeting.
Role
Examples: protagonist | dad | male client | owner
Self-explanatory, I'd iimagine? Handy for instances in which you want to be a nameless protagonist with a certain role.
Incredibly Internet-sounding Usernames
Examples: zeldanerd | noscopeking | whatever the fuck you can think of
If you're trying to create a character that will emulate mid-2000s era Omegle cybersex, this helps a buch.
Medium names - case matters! I've had best results wiith ALL CAPS.
Examples: SCRIPT | SCREENPLAY | DIALOGUE
If you're doing something third person, these are must haves. Using anything else will confuse the fuck out of the Character you're speaking to if you're going for third person content.
The name of another pop culture character or celebrity.
Examples: Mickey Mouse | Gawr Gura | Homer Simpson | Chris Pratt etc.
You know how a Character's name essentially defines them? It works the other way around, too. The AI will interpret ((You)) as that character.
In a nutshell, your Name is equal to that of your Character's name in importance. The AI interprets YOU as a character, and will apply the same knowledge to your name as it does to a Character's name.
