>>36352003I heard some other anons talking about how the talents basically confirmed they didn't get to see the finished manga images before the recording (not unusual since these sort of multimedia projects usually involve separate parallel production processes from different people working asynchronously) and were pretty much just handed a script with little to no direction and just sent their individual takes back in isolation.
Which explains some of the awkwardness in voice acting and lack of flow, as recording in isolation with no direction will make anyone sound worse unless you're a super professional or natural talent (or to put it another way, WITH proper direction you can make even a nominally bad voice actor sound much more passable).
Also the apparent "disconnect" in emoting. In some manga panels, their faces express an emotion that's different from how they actually spoke their lines. For example when Kiara says something like "let's go girls", the drawn manga face is all super-cheery, but Kiara had a more serious tone of voice. Now it's obvious why, likely Kiara didn't get to see the actual manga panel before (for example because it was still in development, as many of these HoloEN projects are basically deadline-scrambles) and so didn't know that the line is supposed to be read in a happier way, so she had no context or direction and just went with what made the most sense to her in the situation.
So it's not so much "bad voice acting" per se (as in, it's the VA's "fault" because they "lack skill" in general or whatever), it just comes off as worse because of the awkward disconnect of the emoting between the visuals and the voices not really matching. Of course, I'm not saying they would be amazing super VA's otherwise, just that having proper context and direction goes a long way to make better performances possible (and we've seen for example Kiara have better VA performances, again, probably because she had more context and control)
