I want to like Jefferson but strict constructionism will always be turned against the people as a means to diminish the second amendment. The economic evils of Federalism can be kept at bay so long as an armed, educated populace exists to demand accountability from its massive government. The Democratic view offers the temptation of keeping that government small, but I personally believe that courting weak government only passes the bill down to later generations; accepting no responsibility for promoting the agency of the people and accepting none of the consequences when later administrations conduct the consolidation they neglected, for better or worse.
