Isn't using VTubers for this purpose be pretty much second best thing next to actual conversations?
Most of them actually use normal Japanese unlike anime and are more varied than audiobooks allowing you to understand more than some very specific way of saying certain words

Yes, but also no. For example you don't want to get into the habit of adding peko as a suffix and copy certain inflexions. I don't know about second best, man. It can't hurt and it's still priming your ears to listen to a Japanese conversation, but nothing beats actually having a conversation in Japanese with a real Japanese person. You get massive gains that way.
