What JP collabs they do get are organized by the JP talents deliberately to spite management and reach out to the EN branch. Whether this improves or not as indies is up to the individual talents. Someone like Kiara or Mori would likely collab with a lot more japanese talents than they currently do, while the ones that don't speak a word of japanese would likely pursue a different path.
>no merchEvery indie half the size of Mumei has merch. You don't need a big company for that, and in fact hololive probably inhibits their merchandizing more often than it benefits it.
In short I would still watch the ones I'm watching now and the quality of their content would only go up. The hololive brand, mainly held up by its exceptional talent pool, helped many EN talents get established but now that they ARE established, the EN branch's terrible management, bordering on gross and malicious incompetence, is only holding them back.
