It's all skin and no substance, and many people are catching up on it now. They might look like anime, speak in a high pitched voice, and play games but these are only 3DPD trying to get attention with little care of saying or doing anything of substance.

It all sparked with the idea of being a character, building something, pushing the tech. And modern vtubers do the opposite.

Lame ass 2D, normalfag girls with normalfag problems, no new tech breakthroughs since Kizuna's debut.

Depends on exactly how you define vtubing. It may be that the very niche and specific style of vtubing which descended from japanese idol culture doesn't resurge as the main genre of vtubing content again, but motion-tracked animated avatars are only going to become more and more mainstream, and as the industry broadens its base through a wider range of content, it will create a more stable level of general acceptance for the technology. Hopefully creating a large enough ecosystem to sustain relatively large niche genres, including japanese idol-derived content.

Several reasons for this:

We get like at least 50+ english speaking vtubers that are watchable (3 views). 200+ if its with jp. Like 1000+ if it includes 2 views.
This is 50 x 2-4. Lets say 3h. 150h in just a week. A week only has 164h.

Its rare for them to be or do something truly unique. There are a few who got unique voice, humor, personality or avatar and these are watched quite a bit (Peko, Gura, Pomu, Selen etc.). The rest just is the same.
It doesnt help that they all do and play the same thing/play the same games/thing the same songs. Unique things like Mumei and Bea doing improve acting or that snek lady reading fairytales are super rare.
