Using (You) mid text is strange - either rewording to remove it or just calling (You) Anon would work better.
Other than that, the prose was a bit awkward at times - this fic would have greatly benefited from a round of revision - but it was very cute. I really like how (Anon) bought like a dozen hamburguers, instead of doing the reasonable thing and getting two or something

Recently reread "To Mercury..."
The setup and 'twist' is cliche but the writing made it compelling enough. It's only problem is that it's too short to be more than just the cliches.
It's written well enough that I think it could have supported more dying dream/hallucination space stuff beyond the introduction and 'unveiling'. This fic was lean and tightly written with a concept in mind but the lack of 'fat' hurts its impact more than it helps.

You did great in all aspects but I gotta say the dialouge by far my favourite part of the fic, everything flowed so well and Anon's and Ayame's interactions were always such a treat. And that sex scene as a pay off literally couldn't have been better. Amazing job man, this was well worth the wait and would more than welcome a sequel.
Also the realisation of how the title ties into the fic just fucks with my heart. That is so god damn sickeningly sweet. Jesus christ.

A fic written tight like "To Mercury" can work (especially for things like tragedies), it's just that for that particular fic the 'Dying Dream' took up the entire fic to setup and unveil. Which meant that there was little room for the other things that make tragedy hit hard.
Please don't take this as me shitting on the fic. I like it for what it is.

I've played Old Blood and New Order, and recently accidentally bought New Order again so I was pretty mad. I'm hoping New Colossus will be good enough to wash my palate. Wolfenstein to me is Doom but better. I bought Doom but it just wasn't my thing so I refunded. The movement and weapons didn't feel like they had weight, which is a shame because Doom looks very fun.

A vast majority of them are utter garbage pushed out by Chinese web novel mills, and the genre as a whole is basically as derivative as the Isekai genre. It's just that the setting and magic system that's normally used in these novels are a breath of fresh air compared to normal/Isekai fantasy settings.
Which leads to there being a pretty decent selection of stuff inspired by the genre on royal road that's at least worth checking out alongside some of the cream of the crop from china being pretty good 'popcorn fics'.

The most basic part of cultivation is qi
Qi permeates almost everything, with areas having arbitrarily less or more qi
A cultivator is somebody who takes in qi from the environment and absorbs it into themselves
Qi can be used to make yourself stronger, faster, tougher, shoot fireballs etc.
Cultivators are divided into different tiers, which vary from author to author, but a common stage is Golden Core. These tiers are exponential in power. A lowly Qi Condensation cultivator can shoot a fireball that can kill a bear. A Nascent Soul cultivator can shoot a fireball that nukes a city. Conceptual abilities also start showing up once the protagonist gets strong enough.
Purely martial skill tends to take a backseat to power, generally you don't see technique-based martial arts much.

It depends on the setting/novel but generally it's martial arts that keeps escalating into more and more ridiculous shit with the explanation being using Qi or through their understanding of the Dao.
Honestly if you're even vaguely interested just pick up and read a xianxia translation or xianxia inspired webnovel and you'll basically get the genre explained.
