>>38217196As long as you're in the Tokyo Metro, you can pretty much survive entirely on English and travel-guide-level Japanese. Hell, if you're extremely Western Pig and go to a McDonalds, they literally just point at a menu on the counter and tell you to recite the meal number and S, M, or L for your size.
I highly recommend stopping at a mobile carrier in Narita or Haneda airport (whichever you land in) and renting a mobile hotspot if you don't already have one that works internationally.
Also, one faux pas I didn't realize my first time visiting was no one eats on the train or while walking around. You either stop and eat where you got your snack, eat it while sitting on the train, or wait until you get back to your hotel.
