How do you people actually fall in love with a vtuber?
I'm not even trying to make fun of gachis or anything I'm just legitimately curious. I've been trying for half a year to fall in love with one and it's just not happening. Am I just too misogynistic?

How do you fall in love with anyone? Developing a crush on a vtuber is just like crushing on that girl in your class who would never talk to you. Except you have a mutual friend so you spend a ton of time around her and get to hear her talk about her day. Everyone will naturally gravitate towards different streamers depending on what entertains you, but feelings aren't something you can force.
Being a gachi doesn't mean you're a better fan or even that you necessarily like a vtuber more than one of their non gachi fans. It just means your brain shoots you different emotions when you see them.

I just use my Oshi for female interaction instead of seeking out a girlfriend.
I'm socially able to if I wanted, I could can't be bothered with real women my age anymore.

The answer is the same as if you had asked "How do you people actually fall in love with a person?" (which vtubers are)
And the answer is: you can't. Or at least, not on purpose. You have to interact with them because you like interacting with them, not because you have ulterior motives. Only then will you happen to find someone who hits all your buttons.
In my case, I was looking at not-holo vtubers because I like vtubing in general, then somebody mentioned Phase Connect, I went and watched a few streams, and I found an amazing person that I cannot stop listening to every day (pic related.)
Still in my case, I never go out to social events and I never chat with people online, because I don't enjoy those activities. They are tiring and stressful and cause me emotional damage. Therefore I never do it, therefore I can never fall in love with real people.

I dont think its something you control, i liked her personality and enjoyed her streams as time went on i interacted with her both in chat and 1 on 1. Started to think about her at work and felt happy when i talked to her, slowly just got more and more infatuated. Found her roommate and she was cute, but not out of my league. Fell hard and now im screwed because i have feelings for someone who wont be able to reciprocate them fully due to her job as a vtuber. It just kind of happens i guess

There is a thin diference between liking someone and just falling in love with said someone.

Took me a year and a half of trawling through indies before I found a vtuber I actually ended up falling for. Unless you're delusional or enjoy the larping of GFE then you've got to find something special in their personality or character and that's not any easy thing to do when most of them are just streamers with an anime avatar, especially if you're an eop

There's nothing mentally ill about falling in love with a girl you like, even if she's not real. Your brain is doing what it should do it's just not being fed the proper stimulus so you're doomed to a one sided love, it's not like humans are known for being able to control these emotions very well. It only gets mentally ill when you start thinking she's returning those feelings or turn up to family events with your roboco daki and start introducing her as your wife

It’s because I realize a lot of vtubers use the anime avatar to act genuine in a way they wouldn’t as fleshtubers. Call it fake if you want, but the kayfabe vtubers do is far less made-up than the normal facade people put up irl around strangers.

i was one of the holos gachis/ antis actually getting angry to the fact she might had bf stuff,

the reason was pretty simple. i was at my lowest at that time, i dont go out, school are annoying, friends are going somewhere else,
and you just need someone to hold onto. but when you watch someone for 8 hour a day and that someone is happier than you, you felt something was off and you want them to relate to you so you tried to "bring them down" to your level.

It'll just happen. You'll start by being mildy amused and suddenly you don't want to miss a stream or she says something and you can feel her grabbing at your heart.
It's easier when the vtuber themselves is giddy and excited instead of jaded and broken.
