because they're never meant to be like that. put vtubers aside, see all the "successful" male youtubers like pewdiepie for example. yeah he's a personified reddit since late 2010s, but he never got popular by being an idol figure for females, he's not even remotely "cool" or even that good at games. but he did it by getting audiences to be engaged on his contents. that's the thing male vtubers are lacking. dudes are supposed to be bros and embrace that trait.

As someone already said, most are betas and others are too openly horny/weeby that you wouldn't wanna be caught dead watching them. I know a babi on twitch that's both, extremely stupidly blatantly horny avatar but with the personality of a brick wall, in fact there's lots like that. If it's not those two things, they are trying to play too hard into a gimmick that's either conventionally unattractive or comes off as try-hard and non-genuine. Sometimes they simply have ugly or boring avatars.
Other's have already pointed out but for a male to succeed is for them to take lessons from actual normal entertainers. You know, actually be charismatic sometimes.

I think being able to maintain a regular audience of a couple thousand live viewers is tantamount to success in the vtubing world and they can all do that with ease. And then there's Fuwa Minato who plays a host, a prettyboy designed to appeal to females who regularly pulls 10k on his live viewers. If you can entertain an audience and keep that audience you're good.

It's generic male incel voice, femboy that makes it somewhat, and the rare deepvoice with shit avatar. Can't agree. Some male Japanese chuubas pull off the ikemen thing just fine and they successfully pull in a large female audience. If you want western entertainers specifically, look at Corpse Husband and Cryaotic who got their massive view count from having a nice voice. Neither have ever shown their face as far as I know. Neither are very entertaining in my personal opinion either (especially Corpse Husband who contributed heavily to the Among Us sus thing being run into the ground a thousand times over) but they're nice enough for females to watch. Hell, back in the day when fujos did what they wanted without worrying about fetishizing actual gays, Cryaotic's fans used to ship him with Pewdiepie. If you go on Tumblr or wherever, you'll find lonely women/fat preteens shipping themselves with some e-celeb or anime character. Look up Obey Me! on Twitter. You will find a lot of women who are heavily devoted to their husbando in that game. Male-oriented media has gained a good amount of traction in the west.
The BFE/BL crowd is not to be ignored. The western male VTuber market has vast untapped potential, but because no company has gone in hard on the EN side of things and most indies simply do not fujobait or do any BFE stuff, and if they do, they don't do it right.
If there are any /asp/ies in this thread, practice your voice, have decent enough speaking skills, and put yourself out there and you'll be golden. Females will be offering you supas like a god.

Ever think there might be a reason for that? I think there are two main reasons.

1. Niji prominently features male vtubers and nobody likes male vtubers
2. They just aren't that interesting

Hololive started gaining traction in the west before EN was even announced so it can't be because of the cultural barrier. Face it, male vtubers are a net negative and Niji just isn't that interesting. Facts are facts.

Fujos are not the untapped potential you think they are. They're interested in kpop, otome games, and fanfiction, none of those have any crossover with live streaming, they'd be clipfags at most. The two guys you mentioned didn't start with anime avatars anyway, they were just faceless guys with art given to them by fan artists/commissioned after they got a bigger following. Starting from scratch with an avatar is way, WAY worse than just not having a facecam.
Also good luck finding guys with any ounce of charisma that want to be vtubers. In Japan this shit is semi normalized so you have seiyuus and singers and people with actual talent becoming vtubers but here you have a bunch of incel retards that just want to fuck their oshi.

example for this? AFAIK kuzuha is the only one who manage to get the largest number, be it consequent viewers, subscribers, or superchats. and he doesn't even focus on ikemen thing. at most it's just fujobait with kanae but that's it.

The communities are different, the people in them are different and fujoshi are much, much more common than yumejoshi in Japanese female otaku circles. Compare the amount of erotic BL doujinshi for any popular anime series to it's amount of works for yumejoshi. Companies that make BL games are not even the same companies that make otome games, the two markets have that little overlap.

Almost all clippers are waifufaggy beta males who want to secure their waifu from males, and dont translate Niji videos. Thats the main reason. The second main reason is that contrary to the western woke/feminism agenda "girls love games", girls in general dont have strong interest in playing games especially shooter, action and such. Most Niji videos are however about playing games like that. So its hard for western female geeks to understand the Niji Sanjis contexts/backgrounds, and their vtubers relationships during playing games or in other hangouts. Even if you watch some short Apex clip of Niji, you dont understand anything of it, and find it boring. Even Id be too if i were a girl.

large(er than normal) amounts of girls being into streamers became a relatively new thing due to the pandemic (see dreamSMP) but now that things are open again there won't be that gigantic boom of watching streamers/vtubers anymore.
then there's the issue of there not being that many english clips of the guys (fujobait, bfe, etc) it's all the same handful of clippers. no one is going to go out of their way to find these clips unless they're familiar with nijisanji already, and barely any girls in the west care.

I dunno man, if you look at any of the Homos' chats you'll see a bunch of EOP girls in chat creaming their pants. The English-to-Japanese ratio is relatively high and it feels to me like they vie for their attention. The Obey Me! cast is comprised of a bunch of no-name seiyuu but because of their attractive character models and decent voice acting, a bunch of women seem to love them. Anyone can get good with practice.
I'm not saying that male chuubas will necessarily make bank with HoloEN numbers, but there is a pretty substantial audience.

The real answer is that, in the west, being even a middlingly popular regular male twitch streamer is a better gig than being a male vtuber. Anyone with real talent is gonna stick to streaming normally on twitch. The only exception would be if someone was turbo autistic about vtubing, and vtubing isn't old enough in the west for many people to have gone to that level yet. Sure, it might add some spice to a disembodied-voice stream. If someone had a REALLY compelling idea for a character, they might be able to act it and sell it.

But being a full-on vtuber is a lot of outlay, and signals wanting to be involved with other vtubers and everything else that comes with it, specifically collabs and audience-sharing, maybe also singing.

You could achieve the same thing with FaceRig, a physical puppet, a bad wig and mustache... whatever. Why specifically go for an anime style? You're probably not gonna catch the same audience because you're not gonna meet the same audience needs as a perfectly calibrated moe/genki/etc. girl.

That's probably the long and short of it: nobody's done it right yet* because nobody has any idea what doing it right looks like.

*(JP doesn't count. Our Winning Son obviously knows what he's doing.)

What about Bahroo? He's one of the most popular western vtubers in general (>10k viewers) and he had the brilliant idea of playing a panda being held by a cute girl, removing the biggest problem of male vtubers which is not having a cute girl on the screen.
