In short, they use membranes for wings like bats, which also means they have a lot of blood vessels on their wings, unlike birds' feathers.
Which is good if you want to be efficient fliers, but also means you will lose a lot of heat just with contact with air. Not a problem if you are small like bats & the main reason why bats can't really grow big & only live in warm areas. The membrane wings are double-edged swords.
So how pteros can grow so big? Their tiny stomach even suggests they can't eat much. Are they cold-blooded, unlike dinosaurs & the reason they need less food to maintain their size? If that's the case then why can't the relatively small members survive the meteor, like the cold-blooded reptiles/crocs? Many things just don't make sense about them.
