>>4007756I really don't think so. The story bits are just bad. It's like a gay Warhammer 40k ripoff mixed with them running the memes into the ground. The guns I actually do think are improved in feel and (usually) function, but aesthetics can be bad. The rocket launcher looks especially bad. Most of the new enemies are a good add that make combat more interesting, but you've got some that are just annoying or tedious to fight - the Marauder is the most obvious one. He's not hard when you realize his gimmick, just a tiresome rhythm game and a waste of a good design. Final boss of the base game is actually LESS memorable than the SMM despite being fuck-off huge. I do like all the new ways you can (and have to) juggle your abilities, but there's some weird choices. Removing a basic weapon like the pistol was one - at least when I played you could softlock the game pretty easily by running out of ammo and being unable to reach enemies which wouldn't come to you and stop you from progressing. Some of the gameplay choices are questionable - the platforming in 2016 was criticized, the solution was not to improve them slightly and add even more. I'm not playing bing bing wahoo, I'm playing Doom. The go-slow slime and tentacles are misused. Swimming is pointless.
Eternal is not a bad game, don't get me wrong. It has some very bad elements (mostly just the execrable "epic" story), but it lacks the pared-down focus 2016 had. I like both games, but I prefer 2016.
Also - and this is criticism for both - Hell is fucking boring aesthetically.
